Therapeutic Food Plans

Therapeutic food plans are nutritionally customised meal plans designed to address specific health concerns, identify allergies & intolerances, support the body's natural healing processes and (where required) weight management. These plans play a crucial role in functional medicine as they focus on optimising nutrition to support the body's innate ability to heal and restore balance, and prevent chronic illness.

At Longevity we personalise food plans based on an individual's unique health history, genetic makeup, lifestyle factors, and specific health goals. The primary objective is to provide the body with the necessary nutrients and bioactive compounds it needs to promote healing, reduce inflammation, and improve overall health and well-being.  These plans can also be supported with evidence-based advice on supplements and changes  in lifestyle factors.

Key Components of Therapeutic Food Plans

Our service offers a completely bespoke and personalised approach to achieving optimum health.  We are all unique and have different reasons for why one approach may work for one person, but not another.  Once we have taken the time to understand you, we work with you to develop therapeutic food plans that target your goals.  This may include a strategy to manage or improve a chronic health condition, exclude an allergen(s), or address a deficiency, but may also look to target weight management, individual food preferences and lifestyle.  Our service sits within our Longevity platform, access to "That Clean Life" food and meal planning software, and on-going dietetic support.  See our Longevity Method page.

Nutrient-Dense Foods: We prioritise whole, nutrient-dense foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and essential nutrients. These foods provide the body with the building blocks it requires to support various biochemical processes and maintain optimal health.

Targeted Nutritional Support: Our food & meal plans are tailored to address your specific health condition(s) or concerns. For example, if you are dealing with inflammation, the diet may focus on anti-inflammatory foods. If there are digestive issues, the plan may include foods that support gut health and promote a balanced microbiome.  If you have weight management concerns, we will design food plans specifically to target weight loss or weight gain, bespoke to you.  If there are cardio-metabolic or cholesterol concerns, the plan will focus on foods to support heart health and a healthy weight, if there are cognitive or neurodegenerative or insulin resistance concerns, we may discuss the benefits of a ketogenic or low carbohydrate diet.  We can also advise and develop plans for immune system boosting or detoxification diets for various concerns and chronic ill health, including cancer, auto-immune disease, heavy metal or environmental toxicity, hormonal imbalances, menopause, estrogen dominance, PCOS, andropause, anti-Candida, liver support and long-COVID.  Food plans can be supported by comprehensive lab testing to understand root causes.

Elimination or Inclusion of Specific Foods: Functional medicine recognises that certain foods can trigger or exacerbate health issues in some individuals. Therapeutic food plans may involve the elimination of potential allergens or sensitivities to reduce inflammation and identify food intolerances.  For example gluten, dairy, food pollen or FODMAPs.  You may not know which food groups are causing you problems.  We coach you step by step through an elimination diet and subsequent reintroduction of certain foods, to establish what is leading to your symptoms.  In addition, certain foods may be included to address specific nutrient deficiencies or to support the body's healing process.

Emphasis on Gut Health: We place a significant emphasis on gut health, recognising the vital role of the gastrointestinal system in overall well-being. Therapeutic food plans often include foods that promote a healthy gut microbiome and support digestion.

Individualisation: Every person is unique, and their nutritional needs and responses to foods may vary. Our therapeutic food plans take into account individual factors, such as age, gender, activity level, metabolism, weight management goals & food preferences (e.g., vegan / vegetarian / pescatarian), genetics and any underlying health conditions

Lifestyle Integration: Functional medicine recognises the influence of lifestyle factors, such as stress, sleep, exercise, relationships and home life, shopping budgets, and environmental exposure, on overall health. Therapeutic food plans may be combined with lifestyle recommendations to create a comprehensive approach to healing and wellness.

Supplement Advice within Therapeutic Food Plans.  This involves the targeted use of nutritional supplements to complement and enhance the benefits of any personalised dietary approach. While we emphasise the importance of obtaining nutrients from whole foods, there are instances where supplements can play a valuable role in supporting overall health and addressing specific health concerns. Supplement advice is always individualised based on a person's unique health needs, goals, and deficiencies identified through assessments and laboratory testing.  We offer one of the widest range of functional laboratory tests available in the UK.  Many of these can be sent out directly to you.  Visit our Lab Testing page for more information.  See further below for more information on supplement advice.

Ongoing Monitoring and Adjustments: Our service regularly monitors your progress and we make adjustments to the therapeutic food plan as needed. These adjustments may be based on changes in health status, test results, or your response to the dietary changes.

Therapeutic food plans are tailored to empower individuals to take an active role in their health by providing them with the tools and knowledge to make informed dietary choices that support their unique needs and promote optimal well-being.  Schedule a discovery appointment with Jo to start your own bespoke therapeutic food planning.
