Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Achieving and maintaining hormonal balance is crucial for overall well-being, but it can be a complex and challenging journey.  Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is a treatment approach that aims to restore hormonal balance, using hormones that are structurally identical to the ones naturally produced in the human body. They are derived from plant sources, such as soy or yam, and are chemically modified in a laboratory to mimic the molecular structure of hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.  Unlike synthetic hormones, which have a slightly different molecular structure, bioidentical hormones are thought to be more easily recognised and utilised by the body. This similarity allows for more efficient absorption and utilisation of the hormones, potentially minimising the risk of side effects.

BHRT is commonly used to address hormonal imbalances that can occur due to ageing, menopause (including early or surgical menopause), pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), estrogen dominance, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), andropause (male menopause), issues with thyroid function, environmental toxicity, or other factors that affect hormone production and regulation. It can help alleviate symptoms associated with hormonal imbalances, such as hot flashes, night sweats, sleep issues, fatigue, mood swings, anxiety, acne, hair loss, premature ageing, low libido, brain fog, and cognitive decline.  Our BHRT service compliments our therapeutic dietary, nutrition & lifestyle strategies for achieving hormone balance and sits within an overall functional medicine approach.

Before starting BHRT, a thorough assessment of hormone levels is conducted through blood, saliva, or urine testing - we offer many different advanced functional testing services and these would be discussed with you during consultation. Based on your hormone profile, we customise a treatment plan that includes specific bioidentical hormones, dosages, and delivery methods (such as creams, gels, patches, or pellets) tailored to your needs.  These are prescribed products via our in-house Nurse Prescriber.

Regular monitoring of hormone levels and symptom evaluation are important components of BHRT to ensure optimal dosing and adjustments as needed. The goal is to restore hormone levels to a state of balance that supports your overall well-being and symptom relief while minimising potential risks and side effects.
